September 12, 2008 through February 8, 2009, you can visit in the Antwerp Fashion Museum an exhibition that pays homage to the style of Maison Martin Margiela, now that marks 20 years of its creation. Currently, there are also rumors of withdrawal from the world of fashion designer.
The history of this brand and its designer is quite curious: There are no images of Martin Magiela, and not grant interviews. This anonymity also applies it to the labels of their products and the parades. The tag being on the inside of the garment is white and is empty. Only you can know that the garment is MMM by four seams to which the label is fixed. In parades, the models walk with large sunglasses as a stripe over the eyes, or with their faces covered by long hair or fabrics, as in their last parade.
In the exhibition You can see the main features of his work: silhouettes elongated and fitted to the body, deconstruction, use of second hand clothes to medium materials finish, measures other than those from the human body, etc.. This style is also transferred to the decoration of the exhibition: white walls and cans of paint on the ground. A curious exhibition which you should not miss if you acercáis coming soon to Belgium.
